How do you remove an espresso machine's filter from it's filter holder?

I have a Krups model 863 that I scored at a garage sale. Found the instruction manual online, that i can not get the filter out of the little filter holder that you screw into the machine! It’s like, stuck or something. Help!

  • What the Deuce?! says:

The filter (the little basket) should just drop right out of the holder when you turn it over. If it’s stuck, it’s either bent out of shape, or it’s "gunked up" with coffee grounds.

If the machine has never been used by the previous owner, then the basket is probably bent…this can happen if the holder is screwed too tightly onto the machine. Try tapping the filter arm against the edge of your kitchen sink…don’t tap it hard enough to damage the sink. Maybe the basket will drop out. If it’s not too badly bent, you might be able to gently bend it back into shape.

If the problem is a buildup of coffee grounds, try soaking the whole basket assembly in warm water overnight. That should soften the dried-up coffee, and you can tap the basket out.
